Reccommendations Please

I'm unhappy with the image quality of small compact digital cameras, and yet do use them because they are so staggeringly useful. Any ideas as to a small compact or bridge camera that offers above average image quality? The other requirement is that it should be able to focus very close in its macro...

I was in Cardiff today at a demonstration that was made using a laptop and a huge TV screen. The resolution of HDTV isn't up to it IMHO and not only was the screen smaller than we are used to via the projector but also the detail in text was no better. It leaves me thinking that we would be better o...

Whilst all this is good advice the original question was from the point of view of a photographer just moving into digital SLR photography. In that context, I'm pretty sure he doesn't need RAW capture. I'm yet to be convinced that it is really necessary in most cases anyway. JPEG capture yields supe...

You need to use the Pentax Photo Laboratory software that came with the camera. This will enable you to view the PEF files and convert them to TIFF so they can be handled by Photoshop. If you need specific help then we can do this on the laptop and show you how it works. To be honest, until you are ...

It's incredibly sad and yet fascinating.

What a great place to do a photo shoot, or even make a horror film.

The Train Shed is from a 400 ISO colour negative and is an Images of England shot.

I would have much preferred it to have been shot on a DSLR.

It's quite clear that there is good support for this idea, so we will go with it.

I'll arrange the details with Sue Boon ASAP, and if you read this Sue then by all means give me a call.

Now here's a thought. I seem to have cleared my login problem. Normally I put the PC into standby, sometimes for weeks at a time. I've just restarted and the login appears to be now working normally. Sometimes the obvious is worth a try. To confirm this might be a solution, perhaps anyone who tends ...

did you see an instant move up the competition leaderboard and was this down simply to the improved size of the prints do you think? I think the move to A3 was part of a continuous improvement in the standard of our photography. You can't really separate the two. As the photographer gets better he ...

Mounting Boards

Firstly, thank you to Sue Boon for finding a source of mounting boards at the right price. The proposition is that the club will buy 200 20"x16" black boards to resell to members at £10 per 10. I have put it like that because selling odd ones at £1 each would clutter us up with the boards ...

We are investigating this and some progress is being made.

It would be helpful if those having problems would post here what Web Browser they are using - e.g., Internet Explorer 6 or 7, Opera, Firefox 1 or 2, etc.

Sue R is using IE6 with no problems, I am using IE7 and having the log in problem.
