Westhoughton, where I live is full of history. This is a memorial in Westhoughton Church Cemetery to the Pretoria Pit Disaster, December 1910. The inscription says ‘Sacred to the memory of 344 men and boys who lost their lives by an explosion at the Pretoria Pit of the Hulton Colliery Co. on the 21s...

Apologies for the delay, everything seems to be taking longer at the moment  1 Mel - love the way we can look straight through to the houses beyond - pin sharp right through. I envisage the ledge just to the right as somewhere to put your pint. How about a little outside bar area :) 2 John - lo...

Blue Plaque on the wall of the White Lion Pub in Westhoughton, very near to the site of Luddite activities in the early 19th century. I used to think Westhoughton was an ordinary, nondescript little town until I discovered some of its history.

Re: #238 - Freedom!
Well, this is my idea of freedom - half way up a fell side, looking back down the way I've come. In this particular image I was almost at the summit of St Sunday Crag in the Lake District, and looked back to see this breathtaking view of Ullswater :D View of Ullswater, St Sunday Crag, Lake District....
