I use a Panasonic Lumix G3 14-42 for my son's football matches (sports settings serving me fine at the moment :lol: ). I find, obviously, that it's not quite good enough for decent shots on the opposite side of the pitch. That's even with the inbuilt telephoto setting and zooming and cropping. So......

Just out of curiosity...
On our Lumix on the SCN mode for portraits it suggests having the telephoto option on. Why is this so for a subject that isn't at a distance?
