scanning film or print

Postby mark dyson » Sat Jan 23, 2010 9:06 pm

Walter and myself was discussing which would produce the better scan. Scanning from neg or scanning from the print from the neg (black and white). I think scanning the print as i think you would get more tones. Has anyone got any ideas.

The negative has more tones in it than any print could reproduce, but therefore needs a specialised scanner to be able to record them all.

So the best result will be from a proper scan of a negative or transparency. No magazine would reproduce from a print if they had the negative available.
Best regards
