MAXWELL LAW'S WORKSHOP AT MARTIN MERE

Post by melbarnes »

Hi, Maxwell Law sent me the following email. He said that he would need between 5 and 9 people in order to put this workshop on. Gwen and I are interested in attending this. Is there anyone else who'd like to attend. Seems good value for money to me - it's a whole day's workshop with theory and practical:

Hello Mel

We spoke about a possible workshop at Martin Mere. The date I suggested might be possible is a week earlier than the one we spoke about. If members of the club would like, I can organise a workshop on Sunday 16th November. It will run from 9.45 am until 4.30pm, with time spent inside working on theory, and time spent on the reserve when the light and conditions are favourable.

Workshop details:
Date: 16th November
Time: 9.45 am to 4.30pm
Where: meet at Martin Mere reception desk
Cost: £20 plus entrance to Martin Mere if not a WWT member.
Refreshments and lunch: There is a cafeteria available at Martin Mere, or there is a cafe at Brandreth Farm half a mile up the road. There are also picnic benches that you can use if you bring your own packed lunch.
The workshop:
In this workshop we will have some time inside, developing the theory, whilst at the same time assessing the conditions outside for photo opportunities (do bring your camera's). The day will be split into theory and practice.
The following is a guide to what I plan to cover in relation to you developing your photographic style.
Kit and Camera care:
We will touch on what sort of kit to use and how to take care of it, but this will be brief and won't be a review of makes etc.

Settings / Technical bits RAW Programme or auto Aperture priority/ Shutter priority Manual Exposure compensation .. negative /positive ISO Histograms Depth of field and understanding f stops

Essentials of a nature image:
· Light : The right exposure is the one that achieves what the photographer intends.
· Context:
A good deal of work on 'ways of seeing'. The idea is to bring an understanding to the rules of composition.
· Subject:
Focal point of the image
· Mindfulness applied to Photography:
We will spend some time practicing technique of staying in the 'here and now'.
· Ways of Seeing:

We examine how we see the subject using 'Figure and Ground" theory from the theory of Gestalt.
