Advantages of the New Forum

Post by John »

Advantages will become apparent as we go on, but these include grouping messages into areas so that we can view those of interest more easily. More groups can be added, or unused ones deleted as we see how it goes.

Links will no longer need to be copied and pasted but will be active, such as: http://www.johnriley1uk.org Just click on the link to go straight to the site.

Images will be easier to post.

You can also edit and delete your posts.

Eventually, wheh we upgrade to phpBB3 (when a stable version is offered) direct uploads to the forum will be possible, but not yet.

Any questions, please ask!
Best regards

John

Other advantages also include the bespoke domain http://www.adapsuk.org which is being used to host the forums. We can bespokly modify the look for the forums as we go along but is alittle bit more difficult for the admins to deal with! :D

As good a moment as any to thank Mike for offering the facility to host the forum as a sub domain of his own webhosting.

:D

No worries, it is actually a separate domain but is hosted using the service I subscribe to! Sub-domains usually take the form subdomain.maindomain.com eg. forums.adapsuk.org.

I'd also like to thank Mike and John for their efforts behind the scenes in setting up the new forum. :)

I've updated the links on the ADAPS website so we should start to see more forum activity over the next few days.

I'm reminded back to when we setup the former ADAPS Forum - five years ago! From quite a slow start we had grown to a point where we were averaging around 130 new messages being posted every month.

I'm sure some people will ask, "so why change things now?" Well, we know that the previous forum, whilst relatively easy to manage, had some limitations in terms of functionality - in particular some problems with trying to post photos into messages. We hope that more people will be encouraged to join in the discussions here and to link to their photos for comments and critique.

If anyone is having any problems with the new layout please let the Admin team know and we'll do our best to resolve them.
Paul

Old Forum

Post by keith richardson »

Hi, this looks far more professional and i expect in time it will be accepted happily by everyone.
Just one question, have the posts for the old forum gone for good?
I just ask because occasionally I found it useful to go back and check things members had posted.

good luck with this.

Keith. :D

There will be, or is, a link to go back and read what we had before. I'm not sure where in the forum Mike put the link....

There will also be a link to take you back from the forum to the main website, as soon as it can be sorted.
Best regards

Hi Keith

Thanks for registering.

The old forum is still online, though I have changed all the links on the site to point to this new forum as it seemed unneccessary to keep both forums running. The aim is for everyone to use this one from now on.

The old forum is located at: http://pub2.bravenet.com/forum/show.php ... 5575&cpv=1

I like the look of the new forum, and with the topic feature feel that this will become a very useful resource for club members, and non club members alike. Worth a thankyou to all involved...

Hope you're all well

Jon

lol, funny that given it is a bit of off the shelf software! :D We could (if very clever) tweak the layout to present in any way we want, but that is very tough and I am still learning how to do it. :D

It's a bit like the software I use for my picture a week - see sig for details. It's used by lots of people for blogging. Once you recognise the style you realise it's in use all over the place.
