Bokeh:
In photography, bokeh (BOH-kay — also sometimes pronounced as boke) is the aesthetic quality of the blur produced in the out-of-focus parts of an image produced by a lens. Bokeh has been defined as "the way the lens renders out-of-focus points of light".

These tulips were photographed using the Laowa Smooth Trans Focus 105mm f/2 lens, which is designed with bokeh in mind. This is achieved by use of an Apodization element, plus in this case a 14 bladed diaphragm using T stops. This was shot at T/8. Camera was the Nikon D810, which was very awkward to use with this totally manual lens.

I don't want people to think I'm 'that' person who likes to photograph cats! I was in fact at my father-in-laws over Easter and just happened to be playing with my old 50mm F1.8 AFD, so took a shot wide-open at F1.8. It's no cream machine (perhaps the cat is though), but I quite like the washed-out effect

Hi everyone

I enjoyed all the entries, great to look at different styles & peoples view point on this subject.
In total all images have been viewed 1473 times, what a great figure

Al C Field - although a nice image of Whitby, you may have misunderstood the title exercise. good luck with the next comp.

John Riley - This is one of my favourite ones. Crisp, sharp were it needs to be. Bokeh is beautiful.
Two points with this - A. Left hand side just see the edge of another bud creeping into frame (minor)
B. Bud in the foreground slightly takes away from the main part of the image

Gordon Armstrong - Great shot, back lit, detail is great. Bokeh spot on
A. Background in the top/centre pulling my eye away from main subject
B. The stem to the dandelion just needs to be a little brighter to separate from the background

BydoR69 - What is there not to like about this shot. Wish my cat would pose like this. Every time I grab my camera & get down to take a shot she moves

Mikalosh - Are you a glass half empty or glass half full person. Also taken with proper camera gear NIKON. Love the bokeh circles.
A. Only one thing, the green & red objects just beyond the glass just taking my eye away.

Gwenbarnes - Again someone else getting an animal to pose, must give me some points on this. Love it beautiful blur

Melbarnes - Lovely & sharp on subject. Background rendered great. if only he had been shouting when this was taken with his mouth open

Stbourne - Great just find the colour a little muted, other than that love the idea

Graham Otty - Another great shot, the joy's of spring with a cold snap

Mikeaspinall - This is getting more difficult the further I go down the page, last one thank you
On point in every way. I find this very abstract, background to die for. Colour from foreground to rear and back to main subject
all compliment each other.

If I was to put one of these up in a frame to enjoy it would have to be the cat
That said I have to make a decision on the exercise of bokeh
