Re: Lowton and Leigh Sailing club.

Hi Janice I am not going to pore over the images you have, but ask you a few questions which may help you critique your own images, and help a little whilst you are out and about making images Here goes Being clear about your message you are trying to show is a good place to start, as a lot of good ...

Re: How many ...... ?

I do suppose my outllok to shooting may be a little different to the rest of the contributors- as mine always have a monetary value to them and not just pleasure. As a college student I was taught using a 5"x4" sinar view camera. We were allowed 2 sheets of film to complete any exercise, s...

Re: Dye Sub Printer

Hi Phil, I am replacing my old pictro 3500 with a small easy sized dye sub in June so as to produce passports again. You can happily rent mine for a tenner, and cost of material. I wasn,t thinking of Canon to start with- being a Fuji lad- but the model has had some good reviews and the media seems i...

Many many congratulations to Tracey, Bert, Mark, and Jared on their wins last night. Great to see an overwhelming quality of camera skills, viewpoint, and timing winning so many catagories. Marks image engendered the true meaning of record in a exempliary manner Jared's rendition truly was creative,...

Re: SEA GHOST

Really like the colour co-ordination in this Gerry. and the mood it invokes. Small niggle for me though The girls still look as though they have been added, I think its because the seaspray that would be prevalent in the scene doesnt appear around them, so they would appear more in the scene - a bit...

Re: RAW vs Jpeg wite balance correction in Lightroom

Janice Freeman wrote I need to slow down I think, and give a lot more thought to what I am taking and the composition Janice - good now you are thinking photography and when you get 12/15 images on a roll of film, it makes you think more and more about what you are taking! W 8) You are absolutely r...

Re: RAW vs Jpeg wite balance correction in Lightroom

Certainly from a copying point of view a tiff file is a valid archive file, but I'm not sure ,Theo, about the 16bit file for printers, or prophoto (sounds a very american outlook?) AS for colour space Adobe RGB is certainly the industry standard, but I do Know of many people (mainly Canon users ) who...

Re: RAW vs Jpeg wite balance correction in Lightroom

Good question Janice. Try to answer it without beig too technical if I may . To begin with ALL digital files are number sequences using a binary code ( using combinations of 1or 0 -a bit like off or on -) These numbers are strung together to make code, and each individual string set has a value Each...

Re: A little bit fruity

Hi Pauline, I like the tones and colours in the original, and sometimes smooth tones become far too exagerated in the HDR version. But, the ruggedness of the wooden table, and the grittiness of the bowl removes the highlights John refers to. The trick is to combine the two ( does that make it a smoo...

Completely agree with Tracey's comments, an excellent club night, where all opinions were seen as valid, and made us appreciate other peoples point of view.
More nights like this ? - most definitely!

Re: The Bebington Salon

Check out the FADU [film and darkroom user] web page to see 'waning light writing' and 'photography' alive and well. It is true that the spirit of film photography is strong for those who follow it, but it is now becoming a niche hobby, and those who look for the golden hour of the day or chase the...
