Re: David Bailey photographs the Queen

What a cracking shot - this would be a winner in this week's forum competition!
She looks as if she's just heard a dirty joke from Phillip....!

Re: Special Forum Competition - "Mobile Photography"

This was taken today at Brockholes nature reserve on my Samsung S3 mini. It has been sized to 800 pixels wide, and less than 256 Kbytes in Photoshop. Nothing else was done to it.

This is Denni, whom we met in India - she's very down to earth, and as you can see, a great laugh.

Re: Three Sisters

Brilliant captured shots Jared. I think you've captured the essence of bike racing in shot no. 5. The focus on the rider is spot on, and the relatively slow shutter combined with panning gives a great impression of speed. You've motivated me to have a go!

Re: Free Speedlite basics course

Hi Phil Thanks for the tip on this. I believe it is live from the USA, unless I'm mistaken, so the time distance has to be taken into account. So if it runs from, say, 9 am to 4pm, then broadcast from the west coast it will be 4am to 11am, and from the east coast it will be 1am to 8am. A bit early f...

Re: Thursday 27th March Steward Ellett

Thanks Gill for a cracking night with Steward on Thursday; Gwen and I enjoyed it very much - he was a good speaker with lots of interesting photos and hint on how to attract animals and position yourself for the best shots.

Lots of Brownie points to you for this one!

Cheers

Re: Web hosting sites

Hi Mike Thanks for the advice - but I've now built my website using Weebly (following the advice from Tracey) - it was easy, and I managed to get the name that I wanted for the site for $60 for two years. Now I need to take some decent photos to populate it with - I've just thrown everything at it f...

Re: Web hosting sites

Thanks Phil - can't agree with you more about the photo on the last page - that guy should be jailed if ever caught - he'd frighten a police horse!!

Cheers

Re: Nudes - A Serious Question

Hi Paul, I know that you'd probably like to put this topic to bed now, but I've only just seen the posting, so I thought I'd stick my neck out and throw my comments in. Nudity has always been a controversial topic with some people, but I think that we need to remember that it was only just over a hu...

Display of prints on competition nights

Yesterday Gwen and I went to the L&CPU event at Edge Hill University - it was a good event, and well-attended. One presenter used over a hundred prints, rather than slides, to do her presentation. A camera on a tripod was connected to a laptop and as each print was put up on the display board, a...

Re: Forum Competition#125 'Bridges'

Hi Lisa - well done in the last competition!. This is the pedestrian bridge across the Bridgewater canal in Castlefields, Manchester; it is a lovely area for photography, and worth taking a stroll around with a camera. The photo was taken as part of a photography lesson by a lady who Gwen and I met ...

Re: Forum Competition #124 "A Day to Remember"

Hi to all contestants, and thank you for your entries - here are my comments: Eric (yachtsman 1): It's great to be retired, isn't it Eric - it's like being at school but with playtime instead of lessons! Selling up and buying a yacht is a big step, which takes some courage, but what an adventure! Yo...

Forum Competition #124 "A Day to Remember"

Thanks Shaun - what a pleasant surprise that was - I thought that there were many excellent photos submitted for your chosen topic. I particularly like the body paint artistry that Lisa took, for two reasons - one of which is obvious (there's life in the old dog yet...), and the other is that it is ...

Re: Forum Competition #123 "Street Artists"

This aged gentleman was "performing" in a doorway next to Primark in Manchester. He was strumming away with his right hand, but his left hand had never seen a chord book in its life. But hey, give the guy 10 out of 10 for initiative!
