Quote, Edit, Delete, etc...

Post by Paul Jones »

There have been a few comments this week showing that some people are unaware of many of the features of this forum, for example some people didn't know that you can QUOTE peoples' comments and include them in your message.

Like this...
Mike wrote: Just a quick note to say how we are going to manage this forum. If you have a problem with the forum software please let us know by posting a new topic. Once a topic has been dealt with we will leave it on line for a couple of weeks before deleting the thread. This is just a bit of housekeeping to make sure we are not keeping redundant data.
In message threads where various people are commenting this can be a useful way of making it obvious to whom you are replying and can cause less confusion.

If you look along the right-hand top edge of a posted message you'll see a row of icons that include:
EDIT x ! ! ? QUOTE

These give you the opportunity to edit or delete what you've just posted (within a short timeframe). Clicking the QUOTE icon at the top of someone's posted message allows you to quote all or part of it within your new message.

Try it and you'll see what I mean.

Note that there is also a user guide page of frequently asked questions if you need help -

Hi Jared.
Yes, that's right.
We set it like that deliberately.

Past events.

You'll find this is standard on many forums now. If you have a long message thread where people are discussing or debating something, it doesn't help if someone then goes back and edits what they said previously.
