Competition #65 - New Year, New Start

Post by Ianuk50 »

Thank you John for the last competition and your constructive judging!!

As we say farewell to another year and welcome in the new, I thought we could think about what embodies the spirit of the new year, a new start, new beginnings or new life. A wide scope there for some interesting photos, look forward to judging my first ever comp. May I take this oppurtunity to wish you all a very happy and prosperous new year and good luck!!

Right then here we go - my first competition to judge; not that many images but never mind, is good experience.....

Pammie - Definitely fits the theme of new; the docklands at Salford regenerated and new life put back into the place. Fabulous buildings and wonderful use of glass. Well captured and love the reflections and the angle of the shot some good angular lines, well done.

Stelee - New settlers to the USA for many a new start; iconic image of the statue of liberty known to everyone. Love the sky in this shot and the composition is fine; maybe a tighter crop on the right and less water would have helped this otherwise excellent picture, well done.

Philip Howe - Most definitely fits the theme of new life and new beginning; a heartwarming picture of hope and new beginnings. Love the togetherness of the shot between brother and sister, perfectly captured. Like the mono too and the focus of the shot makes this a perfect picture, well done.

John - Great new dawn capture fitting the theme; lighting wonderful and the sky is just right; maybe a little dark in the foreground, maybe a crop nearer the ducks would have improved the shot. Good composition and lighting makes for a pleasing image, well done.

So then for the result - (drum roll)
Seeing as there were only 4 images I shall put them all in order of preference.
4th place - Stelee
3rd place - John
2nd place - Pammie
and our winner in 1st place is Philip Howe, wonderful image well done...... over to you then for the next comp

Well done Philip, you win the competition with two little winners of your own!

Please start a new thread with your choice of subject, deadline say in 3 weeks?
Best regards

Ian, John, Pauline, Thank you very much.

We would also like to thank members who have emailed me. The twins were born 10 weeks early, so have spent the last six difficult weeks being cared for by the angels in the Neonatal ward at Royal Bolton Hospital. We have had a very good weekend, and hopefully, we will be able to bring them home for the first time in the next couple of days.

Thanks.
