Forum Competition #105 :The Town Hall

Post by keith richardson »

Hi everyone,
Every town has one, they come in many different shapes and sizes and they don't move that fast. So lets see your view of the Town Hall.
Any Town Hall will do, doesn't have to be the one where you live. It can be simply architectural, backdrop for an urban shot or portraits, landscape, or creative, the choice is yours.
Closing date 3 weeks from tonight...Midnight 6th April.

Hi everyone,

Oops, I have been busy sorting out the other competitions and forgot all about this one.

Yachtsman 1
Nice building and worth a closer look. I think a shot from the same side of the river would have been a lot more dramatic.

Gerry,

I expected at least one of Bolton Town Hall. This is well exposed for a night shot, and has added drama with the mono, but I would like to have seen some more of the building.

John,

I have never yet been to manchester town hall with a camera and that is something i need to sort out someday soon. Although I suppose it is safe to say that you wouldn't know that it was Manchester town hall if it wasn't in the title. I love the architecture and the lead in with the cobbles is well seen, and the ghost of sue even adds something different to the image. I would have been tempted to clone out the sign on the door, and perhaps change the yellow window for a clone of the darker ones further to the left.

Tracey,

Another reason why I should have visited this building already. With this one I love the left side of the image, especially the archway at the back and the staircase beyond. That bit is a great image in it's own right. However the flourescent green lighting on the right side spoils things somewhat. Maybe a mono version would be less distracting. (And a dark spooky figure on the right side would be a nice addition).

Philip,

Well I expected Bolton and Manchester but definitely didn't expect San Francisco. I really like the treatment and the 'postcard' effect, but the sky looks very overblown and could do with toning down a lot around the bell tower, or a new dramatic sky could be brought in from elsewhere. Apparently some people do that occasionally.
Also the crowds, despite being small in the frame are distracting.

Well after probably offending everyone who entered, here are my preferences...

2nd place is shared between Philip Howe and John Riley,

1st Tracey, mainly for the fabulous arch in the middle.

Thanks Keith, I think we're dizzy with competitions at this time of year!

But I'll still be keenly awaiting whatever Tracey has in store for us.... :)
Best regards

That's no excuse Keith, you always have your 2am slot to get on the forum. Shoddy! Haha.
