Forum Competition #121 Turn your lights down low!

Post by Phil Ingham »

Hi, guys!
Thanks you so much for my positive feedback regarding my Southport Pier sunset. I'm still a little shocked! The shot was taken last summer. I tried to angle the shot to steer your eye away from the pier onto the sun, but I'm not too sure I achieved my objective.

Recently I have been going out a night taking quite a few night shots. I recently added a shot from the 12th floor of the NCP car park looking down onto Shudehill in Manchester to the ADAPS facebook page. I have had that location in my mind for literally months, but on the way home from work, I went up the other day and got a great shot that I am really impressed with.

So, leading on from this, the next theme is "Turn your lights down low" Deadline is 27th January 2014.

Your shots can be of any subject, black/white or colour, but please stay with the theme. Low light or night photography only!! (Outside shots no brighter than twilight and please feel free to any any long exposures!)

Look forward to seeing your shots!

Regards Phil.

Haven't really played around with long exposures or night photography yet. I did have a go the other month just to see what I would end up with. Here I'd just finished lining up my highlight torch to show the tyre and shed doors up a little better. As the exposure was just coming to an end, somebody kindly popped a light on for me much to my disgust. When I got home and had a look it turned out the shot wasn't completely blown out as I'd assumed it would have been. Must of just got lucky and caught the end of the exposure.

This was taken in Malta last year, from St.Juliens overlooking the bay to Sliema. We were in the middle of our meal when the moon popped out from behind the cranes, it looked massive, I couldn't wait to finish up eating then I could go and take a photo. I had no tripod so had to use a wall for support. (ISO 3200, f5, 1/25).

My picture was taken in Hawes Wensleydale on a night time shoot on a freezing wet January evening. In the background top right is the illuminated cross on Hawes Church.

This image is from Tony Lee, posted for him due to technical difficulties. Tony says, "Royal Albert Hall - Mark Knopfler gig
Taken with my Canon Powershot G1X - f2.8 1/13 sec ISO 1600 handheld - thought the camera performed well in this poor light."

Hiya!

Not really done any night time photography yet, but I like taking late evening and early morning shots. This is twilight over the Ria de Formosa Natural Park in Portugal in April last year. I took this on the bridge camera that I had at the time and it was the last night of our holidays before we came home.

I took this picture just prior to going to the marvellous feast that had been prepared for us on the lawns around the swimming pool on our recent trip to India. It was taken with my Canon PowerShot SX50 (hand held) on 1600 ISO. I thought that the symmetry created by the reflection of the surface of the pool water made for a good composition - but that's only my opinion!

Hi Mel
Not a good idea putting your email address on an open forum, that's why I suggested a PM. I will email it, however I would suggest your edit out your address, or if you can't, get the moderator to do it.

I've edited the e-mail address, but can we keep the thread clear for competition entries please, it's getting a bit sidetracked. Ta.
Best regards
