This one is from my "Fog on the Tyne" AV show, I managed to get 4 similar shots just before the light went. The building in the foreground is the Baltic Trader Flour Mill now an art gallery, then the millenium bridge, then the Sage centre, then the Tyne road bridge & in the distance the old road/railway bridge.

This shot "Electric Sunset" was taken near Rufford on the way back from a trip to Southport; I really like the way the pylon is silhouetted against the setting sun.

We went down to Crosby beach twice to get the material we wanted for an AV show, it took over a month to co-ordinate the tides & a suitable sunny day, the picture is of Anthony Gormley's Iron men in the "Another Place" experience.

I took this just before we were due to set sail on our Caribbean cruise, from Barbados harbour.

I don't shoot many sunsets, but here's one looking across the sands at Southport.

Thank-you for your entries. A good selection of images.

Janice
Nicely exposed with an interesting sky and nothing burnt out.
Just enough detail in the bottom third of the frame to show the houses.

Yachtsman1
Good scene and a pleasing composition.
You say that you took it before the light went, so there isn't much left of the sunset (though you could always add more in post-processing).

Mel
A good idea to add a pattern element against a sunset.
The gradation of the colours through purple, blue, yellow and orange works well.

Matthew
It's a wonderful orange sky, yet I feel that the bottom third of the frame is very dark.
Perhaps consider cropping some of it off to just below the tree?

Tracey
I think Tracey and I share a liking for simple composition. I liked this as soon as I saw it.
Good exposure and control and a generally pleasing photograph.

Mrs Yachtsman1
This photo had promise but could, in my opinion, have been much better.
The statue is quite dark, central and also quite small in the frame. Also, his head has been chopped off in the reflection.
If you had moved your position and crouched down I think you could have made the figure stand out more against the sky and included his head in the reflection, making for a more interesting photograph.
But not a bad effort, Margaret.

Mike
A good use of light on the benches in the foreground makes for a pleasant coastal scene.

Gwen
Another interesting pattern silhouette.
The sun is very big, bright and dominant, yet totally natural.
Would stepping back and showing us more of the sails / rigging have improved the shot? I'm undecided.

John
Nicely exposed and nothing much wrong with this at all, though I think it would have been stronger if the people on the beach were positioned in the more lit parts of the sand.

Bazzasmeg
Lovely orange tones.
To include the railings or not? That is the question. I don't mind them, except that they have chopped the people in half.

My result:

3rd: John
2nd: Janice
Winner: Tracey

Over to Tracey to set the theme for the next competition...

Some excellent sunset images there and a very lovely winning shot. I also loved this the moment it appeared, so congratulations Tracey - we await your choice.

Unfortunately we missed the end of this comp' & have only just read the comments on our submissions. As with 99% of our photography it provides the butter for our AV bread. Our submissions came from audio visual shows which were joint efforts, for Margaret, her image came from a show made in 2011 called "Another Place", mine from "Fog on the Tyne" from around 2008 & converted to widescreen around 2010. Anyone with AV interest can download them from the following links.
