#161 - "Time"

My theme for this competition is simply, Time. This subject can be as open as you like, interpret it in any which way you feel. It could be as literal as a clock face or as figurative as a long exposure or anything inbetween, it's totally up to you.

Closing date will be midnight (well, 23:59, 59 seconds to stick with the time theme) Wednesday 3rd February. I look forward to seeing you images, good luck.

The End of Time Part One. This is a competition for single images and this is actually the first in a series of three. The three show the old clock travelling away into the infinity of time and space, rotating on its axis as it recedes. The first image, this one, represents the start of its journey as it moves away, no longer a functional timepiece and beginning its journey to oblivion.

I rather like this image. It helps that I’m partial to a drop of the old black stuff too! It’s bang-on brief and has a nice shape to it. I know you could say that’s because it’s someone else’s artwork already, but I’m prepared to let that slide for this competition. I would suggest to crop-off the windows on the left and right to concentrate more on the central image, otherwise good stuff.

I’m afraid to say that this doesn’t work for me. As the title states that this is supposed to be the ‘Jousting Knights clock’, the fact that you can’t even see them due to the motion blur pretty much ruins the image. If you had managed to capture them, then I would have also moved-in/cropped-in to fill the frame with your intended subject.

I really like this Janice! Black & white is a good choice, nice symmetry, some good architectural details and the ghostly figures achieved by the long exposure implying the passage of time - excellent! There’s just one thing that lets the side down though - that bloody caution sign! Still great work!

I think you’re right John, this would work well as the triptych you intend it to be. It is still a nice record shot as it is though. For some reason it does look quite dark on my monitor, especially towards the back of the image.

A naked woman - IT’S ABOUT TIME! (see what I did there eh - it’s literally about time har har )

A very (ahem) aesthetically pleasing image with nice tones - black and white being a good decision. I would most certainly have cropped-off the slither top right of the frame! The main thing (for me) that prevents this from being the winner is that the theme isn’t presented as strongly as it could be. The title is ‘Waiting’, so I think she should be interacting with the clock more (that’s CLOCK people! ), perhaps looking at it in anticipation or a least have it placed on her right-hand-side.

I shot this image last weekend specifically for the competition.

I have a number of images where Natalia is interacting with the clock in exactly the manner you describe (arms wrapped around it), but I personally didn't like them as much as this one. With hindsight I should have chosen one of them. Never mind. These competitions are just for fun.

To paraphrase Agatha Christie's book “And Then There Were None”, there are now two less contributors to the “ADAPS” forum website & club.
It is blatantly obvious from the comments & actions of the two so called “moderators” that Margaret & I, or our moral standards aren't welcome.
So, to paraphrase another saying, “if you can't tolerate them, leave them”.
We will not be contributing to the forum, web site or club any longer.

Life is too short to tolerate the actions of people who should know better.

The “moderators” of the forum & club committee really should take a long hard look at why the contributions to the web site & forum from members & non members has dwindled over the last few years.

I joined back in 2011, thinking I could arouse some interest in Audio Visual, which is our main photographic interest. Unfortunately we haven't succeeded.

As the entries in the forum competition dwindled I persuaded my wife to enter her work, despite this, the interest in this competition has now hit an all time low, mainly due, in my opinion to bullying, & this morbid interest in female nudity. Nudity is now also featured on the club website homepage.

Moderators, you just don't get it, to create a safe environment to children, wives, girlfriends or potential members, you need to clean up your act.

We will miss the couple of friends I think we've made. So in case this is erased from the web site, I have copied them elsewhere.

Mr Shepherd I have been a Club member for a few more years than you have been a guest on the Forum and have seen the excellent work created by its members in transparencies; darkroom prints; and with digital imagery and I can vouch that there is no morbid interest in female nudity in this Club's membership.

Nudity has been present in the life of man since I guess ... mankind was born, and with a few exceptions in life I would consider it perversely abnormal not to have any interest in the naked form.

The Club like most has a broad interest in all aspects of photography (AV excepted much to your apparent chagrin) and not everyone likes everything presented, so you are free to withdraw your patronage as is anyone else ...
... I'm just surprised it took you so long to decide.

Eric, there is no bullying on this site or in ADAPS, but there is a wide spectrum of interests, all of which are given space and tolerance. Even your own post will stay, as you have every right to express your opinions as well.

We do draw the line, and have drawn the line, where posts fall short of our reasonable expectations. You're not a club member, but you have been welcomed on this forum anyway and encouraged to join in.

As for AV, it's always been difficult to find enough people who are involved in that, but there are specialist clubs that might help. We do have members who produce AVs, but not necessarily competitively.

Cheers Andy. A good subject which I would have thought should have attracted more entries, however those that were received were excellent. Very pleased to have been chosen as the winner. Sorry this is a bit late but now wracking my brains for another subject. Hopefully VERY soon. I debated with myself whether or not to lose that 'bloody' sign (on the day they were all over the place). I cant rmember why I decided not too but realise of course that it should have been removed.!!!

Well done Janice. I'm unsure about the sign, I think it helps with the title, as it's something static that all the movement has to interact with. It's the constant, if you like.
