#166 Minimalism

Post by Janice Freeman »

Getting harder to choose subjects, so, lets have a try at not much at all - minimalism/negative space! Over to you - and as always - have fun!

The closing date will be Sunday 24th at Midnight. A little bit shorter than usual but I will be leaving the country for my Hoiday and internet is practically non-existent.

Never got any love last year when I put it in the monthly's. It's true minimalism though - not a composite, but a real one shot image. They've since cut the hedge though! :-O Suppose that makes this cutting-(h)edge photography!

A fitting on a cruise ship. I have no idea what it is for!!!!

The man who watched me kneeling on deck photographing it was very puzzled!!!!!!

Well, another excellent set of images - good to see a few more folk entering.

Mel - The Egg. Eggcellent shot now what shell I say about this? Nice clear shot that fits the brief nicely. Some good texture to be seen in the egg shell. I would have liked to see the egg fully lit as the shadowed edge makes it look a wee bit out of shape. Love the surface reflection. Nice shot from the local yoke-l.

Andy - Traffic Light. Quite a surreal shot - an apparently floating traffic light! A little bit disconcerting but clever and well seen. Like the fact that you have taken the shot whilst it is on the green light Great shot. Cutting (h)edge indeed!!!)

Tracey - Tree. A lovely peaceful, calm image with the tree 'floating' on the smooth water. For me, there is just a tad too much sky. However, I love the changes in the bands of blue/grey in the background.

Barry - Pussy Willow(?) Again a very serene feeling to this image. However, the image doesnt seem to be quite in focus. Perhaps a sharp focus on one of the flower heads would have held attention to this image. I like the angle across the image and the delicately coloured muted background.

John - I have seen this flower bud in gardens, but not sure what it is - No matter, its a very clear shot, showing all the little hairs on the unfurled flower head. The background colour suits the image but not sure about the change in colour towards the top. Only my opinion but I would have been tempted to crop off the bluish colouring at the top. Love the lighting on the bud and just enough to also show the detail which is unlit on the underside.

Mike - Parachute. It counts for me mike! The boat and the parachute are in nice positions in the image. The red/orange adding just a nice splash of colour. Again I would crop just a tad from the top of the image. Like the wispy, delicate cloud floating across the image.

Mike Dean - Chilli. Good splash of colour on this one Mike. A slightly more diagonal composition would work well with this and the image looks a little flat. Perhaps boost the colour a little? However I like the waxy look and the fact that the highlights are not blown and no distractions as on a nice plain background.

Gordon - Cruise Ship Chain Fully appreciate the strange looks Gordon - think we have all been there! I like the gold colour with the red chain. Nicely exposed against the white background. A very slight shadow to the left hand bottom corner but not enough to detract. Detail can be seen in the Knob and the paint texture shows in the background. Will wonder for ages now what this was for!!

So difficult to choose and I was really hard just to pick 3 - but these are the ones that just caught my interest:-

3rd Mel.

2nd Tracey

1st Andy

Thank you all for your entries. Over to you Andy for the next choice. As I go away on Thursday - I may not be around for the next 3 - 4 Choices. Will be unable to submit any entries but will try and follow them if I can get onto the net.
