I think with 'easy' set subjects most people typically just raid their back catalogue to try to find any image to fit (myself included).

So for this competition there isn't a 'subject' as such. I'd just like to see what you consider is your favourite or best photo that you've so far taken this year. It can be absolutely anything, any subject.

I'll choose the image that, for me, has that certain something about it that makes it stand out from the rest.

Closing date is two weeks. You have until midnight on Friday 9th June to enter.

I think an image has to mean something personal and special to be considered as a favourite. There are so many images that I like well enough, but some have that extra something. This picture of Beth in John Rylands Library is from one of my many visits to Manchester, sometimes with one of the grandchildren in tow. I like to take them to places that might stir their imaginations. Here, Beth is sitting at the landing at the top of the marble staircase that was at least partly overseen by her Great Great Grandfather, who was a Master Stonemason. So we have our youngest generation finding that she has quite an interesting set of ancestors. At the very least something for the show and tell sessions at school, but hopefully stirring a genuine interest in the past.

Hi everyone

I asked you to post your favourite or best photo, so who am I to 'judge' what you clearly like yourselves? Each image clearly has some special meaning to you.

Just a few comments:

Rianne - 'Carter's Root Beer'
It is what it is. A record of a can. Maybe an attempt at product/advertising photography? Nothing more to add, good attempt except that I might have done some 'gardening' to remove the blades of grass obscuring the label.

JoJo - 'Cemetery Blossom'
My personal opinion is that it would be a stronger image without the white vignette, but if you like it that's what counts.

Michael - Mollie
I know she's your favourite model, so you love the picture. What I will say is that you should work on your technique for adding a black background. There's a lot of 'blotchiness' around her hair, the left side of her head, and in the top left hand corner of the frame. Keep practising as it isn't easy. :D

Janice - Emzi
I can appreciate why this is your favourite.

Graham - Bridge
Nice colouring and composition.

John - Library
Much like Michael's image, the image has special meaning for you and rightly so. Very well handled.

When setting the competition I commented, "I'll choose the image that, for me, has that certain something about it that makes it stand out from the rest."

For me, the winner has to be Janice.

Wow, thanks Paul. An interesting comp. I love to see what other folk are doing in wider terms. Some lovely images which are meaningful to the author. Now to try and think of another subject!!!
