This is the first of our monthly competitions for this season. There are six competition nights, at the end of each month except December, running from September to March. Print and digital alternate.

This month it's prints and an external judge will comment on the images and award marks out of 20. Each member's highest score goes onto the league table and at the end the member with the highest score wins the trophy.

There is also the Les Law Portrait trophy, and anyone who enters a monthly competition with a portrait will have their highest scoring one put into the table for this extra award. This section was created many years ago out of respect for the late Les Law, who right into his 80s produced incredible portraits.

Entering competitions is a very useful way to improve our skills, and quickly. We pit ourselves against the best ADAPS photographers and this gives us a benchmark and goals to strive to learn and simply become keener photographers. So it's well anticipated and for those new, don't be shy of entering as you will soon find your feet and might even give the more seasoned members a run for their money!
