Video Guest Talks

Post by Stbourne »

A couple of weeks ago I asked members of the committee
if it was a good idea to video the guest talks etc that we have or
in fact weekly meetings for members who aren't able
to attend.
This thought was brought about by missing Adrian & Jane Lines
visit and reading all the good comments here about it afterwards.

The question I therefore have is, is anyone willing to take this on as a
possibly weekly thing & has the equipment to do so?

Is it something members want? Eg get past meetings on disk or
Watch on YouTube perhaps?

What do the commitee think?

Please put in your tuppence worth.

Regards

We'll have a chat about this at the comittee meeting on Monday. Providing a particular speaker agreed I don't see any problem with making a video of an evening, although in the format Adrian and Jane used quite a bit wouldn't have come across.

It has been tried before and sound and lighting were both problems.
Best regards

Hi Shaun

Please feel free to come along to the committee meeting on Monday, you will be more than welcome to take part in any discussions we have, the only thing non committee members are not able to do and that is vote. It starts at 7.30 sharp if you or anyone else would like to come along.

A good idea in principle - and if practical - why not as long as the speaker is agreeable. I hate it when I miss a club night, and I will be away for the next 4!.

We discussed this and it was felt that there would be problems with judges and speakers feeling pressured into accepting being recorded but actually not liking it at all. Most of us feel stressed when our public speaking is recorded and available to examination in detail, mistakes and all. There is the potential for embarrassment and it could put off people from accepting invitations to speak.

That was the main concern, there were others, so we've decided on balance not to take up the idea, but many thanks for raising it.
Best regards

John
