Sports camera settings

At present I use the Intelligent Auto settings for my son's football matches and the images are OK, although sometimes there's the occasional blurring on the football .
I've never tried the SCN sports mode. I know this setting does a faster shutter speed, but does it also automatically adjust the other settings too or would I have to do that myself? (as you can tell I want the easiest option for the best pictures . Pie in the sky?😂)

It probably offers a totally auto mode that is skewed towards settings suitable for sport. Why not try it out and see what happens?

I'll try it at the weekend, provided it's not Arctic conditions
Thanks John

Try the auto mode and then look at the metadata for shutter speed etc.
My starting point would be, highest aperture, but, sometimes, outdoors, the light changed so quickly. To freeze the action, I'd go for Tv, where you can set the shutter speed, to say 1/640sec and it will work out the aperture for you. If you have auto ISO, you may use it, however, an aperture of 100 on the brightest day will work and 400 where necessary.

Start with that and adjust as necessary. If your photos are too bright, drop the shutter speed down to 1/100 and turn the iso up to 100 (do not use 50 as it will most likely add blur).

You will always have to adjust your settings to match the light you have.

Good luck.

Thanks Philip,
I'll have to wait til next week now as matches cancelled as half the team are ill :(
I have noticed how quickly the light changes. When I've put the images in the PC I usually have a quick look at the auto settings to give me an idea of what I'm aiming for. Not brave enough to go manual yet
