Intro and opinions please

Post by mister »

I've joined ADAPS today and I'm looking forward to attending as many club nights as possible and may even enter the odd competition, I live in Atherton and run an ISP in Manchester during the day, although I'm from Preston originally

I think I've always like photography but it's hard to tell really. I've owned many cameras, typically point & shoot 35mm film, point & shoot APS, fixed lens film SLR and a fixed lens digital SLR with an incredible 840,000 pixels! A couple of years ago I bought a creative compact then quickly moved on to a Nikon D60 and now a Nikon D300 and I'm hooked, much to the annoyance of my wife.

I've uploaded a number of images to my Flickr account; I'd appreciate it if you could have a flick through and tell me what you think

Welcome to ADAPS and I hope you continue to enjoy the varied programme that will unfold over the coming weeks and months.

I've had a look through quite a few of your images and it strikes me straight away that you have a very positive and bold sense of composition and colour. There are some very impressive shots and it looks as though you could well be giving a few of us a "run for our money" in club competitions.

I agree with Paul that it's difficult to comment on all the photos as a block, so why not post a few in this thread and see what comments we all come up with?
Best regards

Hi All

Thanks for your comments, I agree it would be difficult to give an opinion as a whole, bit of a daft question come to think of it, I'm still getting to grips with Photoshop and will be for years given its immense size!

I do like plenty of colour in my images, not sure if I over saturate them sometimes?

Now that I’m actually going out to photograph things i must admit I prefer landscapes simply due to having more time to setup the shot, I'd appreciate any feedback on the image below, taken from the ferry between Wemyss Bay and Rothesay a couple of weeks ago.

I tend to like dark images, so the overall feel of this one I find pleasing. Unlike Paul, my crop would be to remove a small amount off the left edge to make the image more square. Square formats tend to suit calm, balanced compositions.

However, don't take either of us as the "right" way because all it proves is that different people see the same subject in very dofferent ways. We've seen this time and again on club outings. We have several photographers in the same place and we all make different images.

I like your images and I'll be very interested to see how you do in the club competitions. The rules for entry are on the main website and if you need any more information on that, just ask.
Best regards

I liked the portfolio. As for general comment it seems very nice, good eye for composition and some nicely saturated landscapes. Obviously some are stronger than others but that is the same with everyone! :]
