A new type of digital camera is on the horizon, and one that could have quite a bit of appeal.
Take an APS-C sized 14.6MP CMOS sensor, put it in a new compact SLR body with a new range of small lenses. The camera and lenses are made smaller by removing the pentaprism viewfinder and the mirror box and reducing the rear flange distance, replacing all this with an Electronic Viewfinder (EVF) as in a Bridge camera.
The advantages over the Bridge design are interchangeable lenses and a full sized APS-C chip, just as in most DSLRs. The advantages over the 4/3 system are a much bigger sensor and smaller lenses.
Samsung will be the first with its NX. I suspect Pentax may be the second.
