Re: Canon 500D
i am considering buying the Canon 550D.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Canon-Digital-C ... B0037KM0F8
I'm pretty sure that if i do decide to buy this camera it will only be the body and no bags or lens until the month after at least.
I've used an older model of this camera and loved it! got loads of nice shots from around Pennington flash.
In short, my question is does anybody know where the cheapest place i could find this Digi-SLR from?
Regards, Rob

I got my camera from them, good service and the cheapest price around at the time.
Also, they're only in Standish (shop front) so not far if there's any problems

Re: Canon 500D
Rob,
Are you already a canon user? What Lens are you thinking of getting?
If you are already a canon user, my advice would be to get the lens first. Generally, the price of a lens will not change from one month to the next, whereas a body has more chance of price fluctuation, or a deal. If you get the new lens this month, then you can use that straight away and see some results. If you get a new camera body on an existing lens, I don't feel that there is that much improvement over what you can enjoy from day one. Just my 2p, but it was good advice that was given to me a couple of months back.
Don't be afraid of second hand lenses either, just make sure you thoroughly inspect and try them out first (lce, real camera, jacobs and many others will allow you to thoroughly try a lens) and make sure they have always had a filter attached.
The other day, I used my two L series lenses on my 350D, but I only took lazy shots. I liked what I got though.
It doesn't say on buyacamera how much the body only is, on jacobsdigital they have it for 609.
If you were to buy camera and lens together they may give a discount, or throw a cheaper bag in, or half price memory card etc.
Sorry for the essay, I don't have a lot to do on a Friday.

Phillip is spot on.
Spend your money on the lens not the camera body.
First think about what your main areas of interest are.
If you are already a Canon user talk to others at the club about which lenses they use. They may even let you have a go.
I would rather spend £ 800 on a lens (example 24 - 105 f4L IS) and £ 400 on a body (500D) then go for the latest body that will drop to half its value in the next 12 months and match it up with a low cost lens.
My old 300D (6 megpixel) still produces an excellent 16 x 12 inch print but it has some decent glass up front.

Re: Canon 500D
Thanks for the quick responses, I don't actually own a digislr, I've been using my friends when he isn't using it, my brothers girlfriend just informed me she can get trade price for me on camera's and related products so I've left her the details and she said she would get back with a price for me.
I mainly use a Samsung L313 digi cam.. it is pretty good, the NYC snaps i posted up were taken by the digi cam
i will keep you posted on the price i get offered for the body!
also thanks for the suggestions about getting len's first.. not sure if i'd be able to save up another decent amount to get the body after getting good len's though.. my current job is temp for 6 months

Because you have no existing DSLR you have a lot more choice.
It maybe worthwhile talking to Alan Cash at the club who has a Nikon D80 surplus to requirements.
If you want to know more about it talk to some nikon shooters but it has enough functionality to keep you busy for a year.
He also has some lenses that are incompatible with his Nikon D500.
See me and I will introduce you to him.

Sounds great, if i come round to the club will i need to get a membership immediatly? only just started working and get paid monthly.
i thought about getting a canon because im familiar with the 400D or 450D i think.. not 100% but the displays were quite similar.
Thanks again!

Come a few times to see how you like it, then decide.
