Real Photography next big thing

Post by mark dyson » Tue Dec 20, 2011 7:26 pm

A new shop has opened just off Dale Street in Manchester, it’s the Lomography shop. They sell all the trendy plastic cameras with all the accessories you will ever need but the best part is the selection of film. You can get 35mm and 120 formats in b&w and colour and it is the colour films that are the interesting point. This is not the standard colour film it has different colour shifts and high saturation, the chroma films looks very good. They even have a wall covered with small prints showing what can be done all without a computer. This is the next big thing judging by the young and trendy customers I saw today. Just pick your choice of camera your choice of film and have fun taking photos without any rules and then get them processed in the shop for £4.00 dev only, £8.00 for dev and cd or £10.00 for dev and print (6x4) £11.00 dev print (6x4). See http://WWW.LOMOGRAPHY.COM/GALLERY-STORES/LONDON Also see LOMOGRAPHY.COM for photos. You will need a computer to get them online of course.
PS They even do Infrared film.

I had to turn down the chance to go to the opening of this for ePHOTOzine, sadly, so I'll be looking to call and see what it's all about as soon as I can.

Lomography has had a cult following for some time, and it isn't running out of steam.
Best regards

John

I've had a look on the website, they have a Lubitel Twin Lens Reflex for £298. There used to be a club one, that turned up on sale night, every year for a lot of years, and changed hands for a couple of quid. I wonder where it is now. It just goes to show, what is rubbish today, may be worth something tomorrow. C'est la vie!

Bloomin' eck I used to have one of those - a Lubitel II - and I paid £8 for mine in 1979!!!!!!!!!! my fisrt roll film TLR,

Oh those were they days. Sweaty hands in a paterson changing bag trying not to kink the film as you fumble for the ball bearings in the guides to slide the film onto the reel..
The Lubitel had no meter And only had apertures f4 or f5.6? to f32 and a 500th shutter speed max with a between lens leaf shutter- If my memory serves me well .

I can Imagine it's this tactile element that film lovers enjoy, and digital will always be the second best

Can film ever compete on the bigger stage, again or will the digital elephant swallow it whole
The retail outlet in Manchester bodes well for film uses . Will our clubs darkroom see a revival, It would be nice to see
Filmn certainly had happy memories for me.
