Nice One! That's the spirit Michael - certainly on the right track. ;-] I am certainly no expert but your shot is slightly over exposed imo. I would try darkening it or tweaking levels if you have the software.

Hope you enjoy ADAPs as it has really brought my photography along.

I think it would be good. If when were looking at images for critique. If first the author could tell us a bit about his or her photos, and what they were trying to achieve with it. Then we could be a little more helpful.

In the one above I'm failing to see the photographers exact point of interest.
Regards

Stuart....

Thanks for posting. It's good to see peoples' images.

The idea for the image is sound. Railway lines heading off to vanishing point.

See these examples: https://www.google.co.uk/search?q=vanis ... 80&bih=861

For a beginner it's a decent effort, but it's let down by:

1) Lack of Contrast
The lack of contrast in the image is making it appear a bit washed out. If you have access to any image editing software you could alter the Levels or Curves to give more 'punch' to the image.

2) No real point of interest
Once your eyes have looked around the image there is nothing really to grab your attention. Perhaps a crop to get rid of some of the things on the sides of the frame may help to draw your eye more into the tracks? Just a suggestion.

Maybe a lower viewpoint would have helped to give more impact?

I hope this hasn't put you off... :D

Hi Michael

I hope you don't mind but I've had a little fiddle with your picture and converted it to mono to see what effect it had. Because the image is quite abstract with all the leading lines into the image, it does lack a focal point to give it interest, however I felt all was not lost, have a look and see what you think.

Here is what I did using CS5: Converting it to mono, cropping some off the left hand side to make the tracks more central and with the burn tool, darkened the edges to focus the eyes on the tracks. I adjusted the levels a bit to give it a bit more punch and added a tiny bit of sharpening. Has it improved the shot, not sure, but I had fun trying. :-d

Hi Tracey,
Thank you for having a play with the picture now it looks a lot better with all of your adjustments on cs5 and looks far better than a less than average picture it was.
It looks like i'm going have to start playing on cs5.

thank you
