Latest Practice

Post by Stbourne »

I went out to take some shots of a railway bridge I used to play on as a boy.
Suprising how places change.
It was a dull day so I decided to mono the pic I liked best and add some noise.

You're showing great progress Shaun.

Obviously, it's your photo, but I would question whether the noise is adding anything to the image?

Perhaps also try bumping up the contrast a touch aswell to see what that gives you?

It's all subjective at the end of the day. If you like it, go with it. ;-]

Hope you don't mind but I had a play with the picture and I think this is what Paul is saying. Ignore the trees as they have gone as the resolution was low

Thanks Paul & Mark,

Mark I saw the image before it dissapeared and thanks for taking the time to visually show what Paul's comments mean. It is much easier to
"see" what your trying to explain.

Please keep up the comments etc as they are very much appreciated, and have sent me back to retry at the image.

Regards

Shaun

Hi Shaun

I didn't see Mark's version, but here's what I was aiming at. This took 10 seconds with a simple Levels adjustment.

Image

(I wouldn't normally edit another photographer's image, so I hope you don't mind.)

One of the issues I'm seeing with some of the recent images from our new members is a lack of contrast. It can make such a difference with an image. Yes, there are times when I will choose to reduce contrast by raising the black point, but more often than not you want to have enough contrast in the image (especially with a black and white image). You'll learn these things as you get more into it. :D

Anyway, I hope that's helped... ;-]

Paul,
Thanks, it's pretty similar to Mark's image. I certainly don't mind anyone
re-processing any image I have put here, it is very helpful.
I'm avidly reading about levels, curves etc etc.

Regards

Shaun
