Shudehill - Manchester - Thoughts please!

Post by Phil Ingham »

I took this last week. I would love your thoughts on the shot. It was taken at 18mm, but Ive just got hold of a wide angle lens so I am going to return to the same spot tomorrow evening to see if wide angle makes a difference to the shot.

Any critique is welcome!

Phil.

For me Phil, the bottom of the frame is empty of any interest.
The square crop on my phone, that works better for me, keeps in the top of the frame and takes out most of the empty part of High Street. On the left I've kept some of the car park and the corner of the building on the right, allowing then for the curve of the ramp on the left and the tram track lines on the right to act as lead in lines.

Hi Phil

It's a very good image, but I agree with Walter that it would have been good to include something (a person, a vehicle) towards the bottom of the frame.

Thanks for posting.

Phil, I disagree with most here, I don't think it needs interest, but I would have liked the camera tilted upwards slightly just to cut off say the bottom 5th, the empty road at the bottom. I would prefer this to post production cropping it off the bottom as I think the perspective would be slightly improved.

I quite like the contrast and with enough lines to follow around the photo, I think this negates an extra point of interest.
