I like the strong, contrasty black and white and also the treatment given to it. It's all very sympathetic to the subject matter.
It could be argued that, having led us across the river, there's nothing happening on the other side, but in this case I think it works well anyway.

I get where John is coming from with his comment. Your eye follows the stones across the water and then ends.
That's not to say it's an unsatisfying image.
I like the black and white treatment. I'm not a huge fan of special effects / raggedy borders.
