mono conversion

Post by Gordon Armstrong »

I have been trying to get to grips with photoshop elements and I would be pleased to have some feedback and criticism. I will post three sets of images for you to look at.

The first is a try at mono conversion. I have included the original because I am trying to understand which images will work. My own view is that the sky is too weak on this one.

Agreed, the sky is nothing really, you needed some cloud detail to make it interesting. The light is also a bit flat and not really making the building come alive.
Best regards

Some photos look better in colour, some in mono.

Here, I prefer the colour, though I think you could have done more with it in post-production.

Also, be wary of things creeping in from tops, bottoms and sides of the frame, for example the white railing jutting in on the right hand side catches ones eye.

To remove some of the bland sky, I'd crop down to just above the roof of the house with the ships wheel on it.

Overall, not a bad effort.

Cheers
Paul
