silhouette

Post by Gordon Armstrong »

Cranes at sunset in harbour. This is a bit off my usual pictures and I would be grateful for comments.

I have adjusted the levels to try and get a very dark silhouette and rely on the detail in the metal work. I think there is some fringing around the fine detail but I am not sure how to lessen it - when I tried it soften the outlines.

The composition is off the third line but I like the balance between the two cranes and the bird.

It's not the most exciting of images, but you've certainly achieved what you set out to do. The position of the bird is a nice touch and lifts the image up a notch. As you say, it adds balance.

Thanks for posting.

It needs the bird, it shows how the smallest of details can lift an image. A more dramatic sunset would clinch this one for me, but the choices made with the silhouette seem spot on.
Best regards
