Which Image?

Post by John »

Here are two images of the small cottage in the grounds of Arley Hall. The first is shot with a short telephoto zoom set to 108mm. The second is an ultra-wide zoom set at 15mm. First, please vote on which you prefer by selecting an option. Then please tell us why you prefer one or the other. It might be interesting!

Anyone who doesn't want to vote can see the results by clicking option C. The poll will run for 7 days.

For me, I'd like the deep blue sky of the second (wide) photo in the first (telephoto) image.

I like the sideways / triangular view of the cottage in the wide photo, but prefer the more 'normal' perspective view of the cottage in the telephoto shot. If you had taken the view of the cottage from the second viewpoint but with a telephoto lens that would probably be my choice.

Hi John.
Yes, it's the first image for me also, and for the same reason as Paul. I think it offers a better perspective.

Regards,

Phil.

Ultra wide - it has a better composition and more drama than the telephoto version.

I prefer version 1. The building in No 2 looks a bit lost in the middle of the picture.

I like both but my preference is number 1. Number 2 is more dynamic but there is too much space around the house for me. I would have cropped the sides.

I prefer the wide angle, I like the more saturated colours and the space around the house. I also like the way the path sort of frames up the cottage.
