Nokia have always lead the field in mobile multimedia, but I think this is a bit far:

Here is some further information
http://www.dpreview.com/news/2012/02/27 ... 1MP-sensor
I understand the pixel binning bit but what I do not understand is how they get 41 MP on a sensor that is smaller then the nikon cx one (which is only 10 MP)
By the way the nikon CX sensor is smaller then the 4:3 one which is smaller then the APD-C one, which is smaller then the full frame one.
And the full frame one is only 36 MP at best.
I must be missing something.

I can see why they have done it, to get round the problem of a zoom lens, just using digital zoom and cropping instead. There was a rumour they had tried to use a similar method to Pentax's sliding lens, however, it's patented and Carl Zeis didn't like them have an affiliation with another lens manufacturer.
Strange they didn't go for a 16Mpix first, just straight to 41.

Re: Nokia 808 phone with 41-megapixel camera (FORTY ONE)
I've got 10 on order to be fitted to my custom-built extended stand, each mounted with a 20% overlap which, when joined together in a program such as PTGui will give me, effectively, a camera of some 350 million pixels!
All I need to do now is save up for a printer that will do justice to those pixels. Hang on - I can sell all of my kit to buy the ten Nokia 808's and the stand, and still have some spare cash to buy the right printer and to invest in my new venture of chocolate fireguard manufacturing! Mustn't forget the ear plugs 'cos the 'noise' one of those child will produce bearing in mind its small size will be mind-boggling!
Or am I just being a little cyclical about Nokia's claims?

Ooops! Not 'child' of course I meant 'chips'.
Re: Nokia 808 phone with 41-megapixel camera (FORTY ONE)
I want a mobile phone to:
1. make 'phone calls
2. send text messages
End of... I don't want it to play music, take pictures, make notes on, peel potatoes or take the dog for a walk.
Things are just too complicated these days!!

Good bit of innovation from Nokia. It will be interesting to see if the technology makes for better photographs.
