#213 - What Does Christmas Mean to You?

Post by John »

Neil Higham has selected his competition:

My choice is a seasonal one ,so the next comp is ------ "What does Christmas mean to you " is it lights, booze, markets , food, presents or the more original religious concept , so please give us some pictures showing your own personal view of" Christmas ".

The comp will run until midnight on new years eve.
Best regards

I really dislike the commercialism of Christmas. Christmas for me means being eternally grateful that I’ve never known a war, have a nice roof over my head, warm clothes to keep out the cold, enough food in my belly, and friends and family that I can rely on, unlike some genuine poor souls who are forced to live on the streets in the cold and unsafe environment. I wish a happier New Year to them.

Family, This is what Christmas means to me. A full home with everyone together having a good time for a short while. Even though it's a lot of work and i'm back in work the next day, I wouldn't change a thing.x

Christmas to me is about spending time with family. Making colourful paper chains together is a great way of embracing the festivities,(also gets the kids away from electrical devices!)

So a new year is upon us and I am immediately forced into making decisions that could be life changing for some people
1, Mels picture is totally against everything I believe in at Christmas , I love the colours , the lights ,the giving and getting of presents ,the music ,the meeting of old friends ,the family dinner ,the bright eyed happy children and the reason it is there at all ,to celebrate the birth of a basically peace inspiring religion that should give guidance and hope for all ,not that it always does but it could and should. The greatest upsurge I have seen in commercialism is charities begging monies from ordinary working class people to pay themselves over the top wages ,as far as street sleepers are concerned Wigan council have been asking anyone who hasn't got a bed or if you know of anyone in that situation to get in touch and they will be given one, the only ones who they cant always accommodate are the one's who choose to be high on drugs or off their heads drunk. We all make decisions in life and then have to live with the consequences thereof. Joan and I actually witnessed a beggar in Manchester refuse some hot food and a cup of coffee from a lady telling her " it is money that he needs".

2, is Sue, That rhymes. Anyway that is more my sort of Christmas and who can argue against a good old family get together.

3, is John ,the Mon, the head of that family and I think a much more Christmas looking picture with a fisheye view of the family all set to tuck into
some seasonal jackbit.

4 , is Joan with a traditional nativity scene that filled a massive area in the church ,bits not quite sharp but inside a church with little light and a
point and shoot camera it is a good effort and having just come from a visit to the concentration camps it was full of emotion.

5, jojo , a colourful picture full of memories from my younger days making paper chains ,twisting crepe paper streamers ,plucking, cleaning and singeing the chicken ready for the next day making custard from the unshelled eggs sorting a cleaning the giblets for broth and stock .Christmas is to be enjoyed and looking at JoJo's picture gave that to me .

The WINNER is JOJO and the baton is now passed on to you young lady.
