I AM LOOKING TO BUY A LENS FOR NIKON D5100

Post by mikeaspinall »

Hi Folks

I managed to get a Nikon D5100 for a reasonable price and am now looking for a lens to replace the 18-55 mm which my Son

has loaned me. Ideally a 'walkabout lens' with a bigger reach (e.g. 18-200) would be perfect although I would consider anything

similar. If you have anything for sale please let me know.

Cheers

Michael

Hi Mike. I bought the Tamron 16-300 from Digital Rev. I use it all the time and it has proved to be a really good walkabout lens. I never take it off the camera.

I also believe that the Sigma 18-300 is a bit better!

Janice.

Hi Janice

Many thanks for your message which I have only just seen. My Son has loaned/given me a Sigma 18-200 OS lens
which is just right. An equivalent Tamron would need an autofocus motor to work with my D5100 which doesn't
have a built in one. Problem is of course the lens (like a Nikon or Tamron) is just too damned heavy when carrying
but reasonable when using because am not thinking about the weight then.
When there was the Nikon sale night at the club a lady was selling a D7000 which would have been better but then
of course so much heavier.
What with not going to the club any more (transport problems) and just getting too old I have lost the plot.
