Canon EOS-M

A strange camera, although I was excited by the announcement, I was slightly less excited to find that it is basically a Canon 650D in a slimmer case. It uses the same APS-C sensor.

There is a fully equipped adapter though that you can use your EF and EF-S lenses with though, which is good. I wonder if it will just be thought as a jacket pocket backup camera for many, instead of carrying a spare DSLR for weddings etc etc.

I'll keep hold of my Canon 5D and my Olympus E-Pen for now, I think.

This is a very similar concept to the Pentax K-01, although the Pentax does not require an adapter to use existing DSLR lenses.

The Canon is slimmer because of the new lens register, but it won't be slimmer once the depth of adapter and DSLR lens is added.

As both these cameras still need camera bags to carry them, they are not pocket cameras. Possibly they are if you happen to have a poacher's pocket in your jacket.

Not really impressed with this at the moment and it`s a bit pricey.

Will have to keep watching for further developments.

Agree with you both entirely. If I'm going to be carrying my 70-200 f2.8L, it'll be on my 5D. My Olympus E-Pen is great for holidays. The price is unreasonably above other dslrs. My Olympus (second hand) cost me £200, with basic kit lens.

As you say John, you'll still need a bag for it.

Ha, just did a web search for Canon EOS-M and this post came up. I've just bought a second hand one for £175, need to get the adapter to use my EF lenses on it though. Anyone else got one?

If I get on with it, I'll be selling my backup 350D and my Olympus E-Pen EPL-1, if anyone is interested....

Had looked at the M when upgrading my Canon Pro 1 for something more compact, but then the idea of needing to invest in and carry around another lens system put me off, so I went for the G1x with the slightly smaller sensor (but larger than the other competitors) and with some assurance in the build quality ... it has it's limitations over Pro 1 - no L series lens and no macro ... but a good solid 'compact' nonetheless (just had to buy a jacket with bigger pockets!).
