#160 - "Beside the Seaside"

The "seaside" is only a mile from our front door, but because of Southport's unique position, the sea is gradually receding further & further, so we don't often "SEA" see it. So for this comp' I've taken the words of the popular song as the subject. Click the link & scroll down the lyrics & pick a subject for your image, the brush is quite broad, particularly the middle verse.
Midnight Monday 18th January is the cut off time, roll on summer.

A rather bleak look at the other side of what the seaside has to offer......

I love entering competitions, even more I love winning them. However, I have my doubts about judges & judging. So please don't take umbrage about what I have to say about your image, it's just my personal view, someone else my think the opposite. Can't think why there was such a low entry?
So, comments in chronological order-
1. Tequila Sunrise BydoR9,
Well composed, fits the brief, good colours.
2. In the Shade. Tracey McGovern.
Another well composed shot that fits the brief. Impressive sky.
3. “The Bathing Machine” Janice.
I had a lot of trouble with this one trying to decide if it was a cloned image, or how it was constructed. The colour of the hut & the mono-ish feel of the surroundings? Despite that it fits the bill, sharp & clear & on my monitor gave a 3D-ish look.
4. “ Brave Souls” John.
Brave souls indeed, I don't think I would have ventured anywhere near where the subjects were, & from the angle it was taken, neither would the photographer?
5. Untitled nude with parasol, stopher.
I'm not a prude, but when I see a picture containing the naked female form on a public forum comp', I cringe. Saying that, it fits the bill, could it be another clone? or do I need a new monitor. Not much exif info available to see how it was taken? Horizon not quite straight.
6. “ FORUM THEATRE OF MUSIC” Mike Aspinall.
Another shot from an unusual angle, well composed & exposed, good sky. Wide angle lens has created a slight fish-eye effect which gives it some presence.
7. “Goa 3” Melbarnes.
HMMMMMMMM! Well, at least this one has a bikini. Pity she isn't facing the camera, or looking side on, maybe she saw the camera? Fits the brief, I like the reflection.
8. “Blackpool pier” Gordon Armstrong.
Typical seaside shot, has everything, sea, pier, seagull, sky. I like the juxtaposition (if that's the correct word?) of the railings, pier, steps, strollers. Pity the left hand turn at the end of the railings wasn't shown.

In third place “ Brave Souls” John.
In second place “Blackpool pier” Gordon Armstrong.
My winner is Tequila Sunrise BydoR9, the grains in the sand did it for me. So it's over to BydoR9 for the next one.

Thank you for choosing my image as winner :-] . It's particularly poignant today I think with the sad passing of The Eagles' Glenn Frey :-O

I'll be setting a new competition shortly.

Andy.

Well judged Eric - it is sad that we get so few entries for this forum comp, so pleased that you - and the other stalwarts keep ending in entries.! Just for you, my image is not cloned, just a simple filter and vignette for the 'old feel' look. Congratulations Andy, looking forward to your 'Time' comp now.

Janice :)

Thanks Janice, glad my comments didn't offend. Because of the quiet time on the Pictures to Exe forum, I've entered a few of the DP Review competitions, haven't managed to come below 40th yet. I think the secret is enter early.
Regards Eric.

I often browse the DPR challenges. The photos with most impact tend to win.
