Competition #266 'Glass'

Apologies if this subject has been chosen before, but I'd like you all to think outside the box ... it could be a glass you drink out of, or a window you look through, it could be a mirror, an ornament. It could be a beautiful landscape scene with a lake that looks just like - glass!!! The glassy eyes of a model or a silly pair of specs ... see what you can come up with. I'll give you until 28 February :-d

A WWII air-raid saw the destruction of this little German Church. The beautifully restored stained glass was created by English artist Graham Jones...son of the pilot who destroyed the original!

Thanks everyone! I've looked through the entries and made a few notes ... this is going to be difficult as I love them all!!! So I need to spend a bit more time on this!

Ok I've finally made up my mind, but it really wasn't easy as I liked every single image!

Mel Barnes. Glayva – Nectar of the Gods
Beautifully shot still life with lovely reflections, and pin sharp. Perhaps a little dark, but easy to read the label.

Sue Riley. Elements in Glass
A clever idea, nicely composed. Exposure just right and all the glasses are sharp.

Drainbrain. St Martin Kirchen, Cochem
I love the inclusion of the history of this window. The colours are vibrant, and the author has taken care to keep both sides of the image symmetrical. It’s a bit soft, but it’s not easy to photograph stained glass windows.

Stuart Brides. Another Please, Landlord
Well photographed - I like the angle of shooting, and the out of focus background. Almost a monochrome, but there is a little colour in the hand.

Graham Otty. A Double Dose of Lincoln
Colourful and lively! I know this street well and wondered how you did this. If it was a reflection in a shop window – well spotted. Or maybe it’s a bit of Photoshop. The grey window frame is a bit overpowering but it’s a quirky idea and I like it.

Darren Hanson. Glass Balls from a Wind Chime
Placing the subject in the centre suits this image. It’s sharp and the background is suitably out of focus. You’ve caught the colours of the glass balls well, and managed to avoid getting a reflection of yourself in one of them!

John Riley. Nikon Glass
Well photographed, and I like the coloured reflections on the glass. Lovely and sharp, and it suits the square format.

Mike Aspinall. Glass Church Lalique Door Window, Jersey
Well captured, the colour is lovely and the detail is pin sharp throughout. The exposure has been set just right to ensure no detail in the glass gets blown out.

Anne Smith. Tequila Sunrise
Love the way this has been photographed. The lighting is just right to create the mood of the ‘sunrise’ coming up behind the glasses and cocktail shaker, leaving them in silhouette.

So after long deliberations:
In third place – Mel Barnes
In second place – Mike Aspinall

So the winner is Anne Smith with Tequila Sunrise. When I first saw it I just said ‘wow’.

But thanks to everyone who took part it’s been great to see your images!
