My first wedding shoot...

Post by Andrew Shepherd »

You may remember from an earlier thread (viewtopic.php?f=7&t=767) that I was shooting my first wedding this year. Well, I'm pleased to say I've now had that "pleasure" and I have been rather pre-occupied over the last week editing and selecting images!

I now have around 160 images selected for the album and, whilst not completely finalised (still to agree the final images with the bride and groom), I have uploaded them onto my website.

Link is here http://www.redshank.net/galleries/jayne-0509/index.html and, as always, I'd be really interested to hear any comments.

Cheers

Andrew

Andrew - I think these photographs are the best wedding photographs I have ever seen !! Congratulations

Inside the church - both close-ups and long shots - excellent
Great candid ones outside and at the reception.
Large group shots - well composed.
I could go on and on.
Did you have an assistant or did you do it unaided.

Hi Andrew

I was knocked out by your wedding album, I think Terry said it all and I agree with him when he said this this is one of the best ones he has ever seen. You have achieved a very modern take on the usual wedding shots, some of the attention to detail was great and the angles you used were very brave but you completely pulled it off. I'm sure the couple will be more than happy with what you have done for them, I'm also more than sure that you will be asked to do more weddings after this. Very well done, you should be very proud.

Best Wishes
Tracey :D

I'm getting married next month, I hope after 20 odd years in the business, my photographs come out as good as that.

Can I ask how you prepared the gallery, as that is very slick looking as well?

There are some nice shots there, you did very well.

Is it my imagination or do some of the suits have a magenta cast to them? It may be that's the real colour of course, but it looks a bit like slight IR contamination from the sensor.

Many thanks all - I'm finalising the album (as a slide show) in the next couple of days (hopefully) so I'll add the link to that when it's finished.

Steve (sunsworth) - you got me worried now! I can't see the magenta cast and I'm not sure what "IR contamination" is - but they look OK to me (on different screens). I'll look into "IR contamination" as it doesn't sound healthy - the light was difficult on the day - bright sunshine/clear sky.

Philip - the gallery was prepared using Lightroom (it's built into the software and very easy to set-up).

Cheers

Andrew, if it looks ok to you then it's fine.

The IR issue is caused by the fact that digital sensors tend to be sensitive the IR light. This causes certain black man made fabrics to take on a magenta cast. To prevent this the manufacturers fit an IR cut filter over the sensor. With most cameras this means that the black fabrics appear as black because the IR light that causes the problem is filtered out. Occasionally however it can be a problem with certain cameras - I am painfully aware of this because I own one <grin>.

You can sometimes see the same effect with the hand held TV cameras they use on the news. Sometimes the uniforms worn by the emergency services can appear magenta rather than black.

As I said earlier, if you're happy with the shots then there's nothing to worry about.

I've now arranged the photos into an album and the link is here if anyone's interested http://www.redshank.net/galleries/wedding-example/

It's taken so much time to get this far, but the light can be seen! The pages just need copying into Blurb.com and then I think I'm done.

Cheers
